Cosimo dealt with Duncan. Sela never asked what was said between them. At her lover’s request, she had invited Duncan over for dinner, being sure to tell him that he would not be the only guest. After dinner, which had been surprisingly pleasant, Cosimo had taken him into her office, ostensibly to go over with him the things that she needed to be aware of in order to make a decision about her part of the business. She had played with Jem, trusting Cosimo to tell her what transpired, and when they finally emerged, they shook hands, and Duncan had refused dessert, citing an early morning meeting as his reason for leaving early.

Cosimo had stayed for two weeks, and in that time, he had helped her better organize her story files, and set up a web page for her stories, as well as an Instagram and a Twitter account to publicize them. He told her that if she wanted to, she could hire a teenager to manage her online presence, and that the money that she was making from her part of the business would cover the cost of a small stipend for whoever was chosen. He had helped her write the job posting, and had told her what she should look for in hiring someone like that. Beyond that, he had not interfered. He had showered her with gifts, and any gift she thought was too much or that she did not like, he had returned and given her the price of it so she could buy what she wanted instead.

She had not immediately said yes to his proposal of marriage. Although she knew that what she was feeling for him was real this time, she wanted to be sure that she was not just reacting to the off-the-hook sex, or to the fact that he was there with her, influencing her decision. She had asked him for a month to think it over, and in the two weeks after he went home, they had not spoken of it in their nightly conversations.

When the month ended, she asked him if he would Skype with her, and she dressed in the sexy new lingerie she had bought, and wore the charm bracelet he had given her on that first night when they had made love on her bed, with Jem asleep in his room down the hall. When he pinged her, she turned her cam on, with it aimed at her feet, and slowly, she had scrolled it up until he could see her face. And the expression on his was reward enough for her effort at online seduction. His voice had been hoarse when he asked her again, in English and in Italian, to marry him. Her ‘Yes!’ had been followed by tears on her side, air kisses on his, and phone sex of the dirtiest kind, because they could see each other as they talked.
